High lights: Day One – 29th September,2014 (Sangathan 2014)

29th September started with great enthusiasm. Completely decorated campus, energetic students – this all set the tempo of the day especially the beginning - Relay Marathon. In the history of the campus, this is the first time the faculties also participated in the relay and helped their department in their victory by adding to their team scores. Nine teams comprising of eight students and two faculties in each, participated in the event. The start point was Foyer of AB 1 Block. The route was a new one as suggested by Maj Gen K K Ohri, AVSM (From the back side road of the campus to New Era Academy). A distance of approximately 8.5 Km was covered in the Relay.  Prof STH Abidi , flagged off the Relay at sharp 8:45 am with the all-girls team for the first leg of Relay. Maj Gen GS Narang (Retd), DSW ran the first and the last  leg  of Relay to motivate the students. It was a beautiful sight to see male and also female faculties taking part in the relay marathon with great eagerness. ASET 2 won with ASET 1 closely following. The core committee of Sangathan 2014 constituting of both faculties and students also participated as a team in the relay and bagged the first position. The event was very well coordinated with proper traffic control arrangements security and availability of drinking water at seven check points. The teams were preceded by 9 students on motorcycles, the video and photography team in an open Gypsy, Security team and an ambulance also moved with running students.

Final Matches of Volleyball ( boys ) and badminton were commenced at 9 AM.

Mr Shambhu Nath, IAS, who retired as Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Government , , The Chief Guest on 29 September , was received in the traditional manner at the auditorium and after a cup of tea with the HOI’s and HOD’s, he was driven in the golf cart to the sports ground.

The Sangathan  torch was carried by the Sports captain of Amity, Mr Aquib Khan  and handed over to the Chief Guest Mr Shambhu Nath IAS(Retd. Chief Secretary) who then lighted the khel Jyoti.

After lighting the Khel Jyoti, the hoisting of the Amity flag was done by Mr. Shambhu Nath in the backdrop of the 7/11 Gorkha Regimental Band playing. closely followed by the release of the symbolic white pigeons and colorful balloons by the dignitaries. These preliminaries was followed by a very impressive March Past by the eight teams carrying their respective team flags and all dressed in impressive Amity t-shirts and track suit lowers, with the team captains also wearing the team colored sash along with the 7/11 Gorkha Regimental Band. While all major Institutions formed their independent teams, the Institutions with small student strengths (Amity School of Architecture & Planning, Amity School of Languages and Amity Institute of Education, Amity School of Hospitality) formed common teams. The teams saluted the Amity Flag and the Chief Guest while passing the saluting base. The 100 meters (boys & girls), tug of war (boys and girls),  a tug of war for the faculty and staff was thereafter conducted wherein the faculty and staff participated very enthusiastically. The next in line was the cultural performances by the teams of AIP, AIB and the ABS. The Hon Chief Guest thereafter addressed the gathering and asked the students to keep up with the sportsmanship spirit along with the earnest desire to play to win. He then blessed the sportspersons and wished them the best for all ventures in the future. After the departure of the Chief Guest, the much awaited football finals between ASET and ALS was played which ASET won with a penalty shootout.

The rest of the cultural teams performed and the competition amongst the teams were very high giving a tough time to the judges of the cultural event.
